That's because you're connecting to official Blizzard servers.  So you need to buy the game in order to log in.

I believe they're still working on an update to support the latest release.

You can download the mac client from blizzard servers for free.  To be able to play the game for free though, you need to run the emulator Mooege.  See mooege.org for more info

Is someone working on a mac crack for diablo 3?

If Diablo 3 is cracked, does that mean I will be able to play online with legit players, or will it be a private server like World of Warcraft?
