Title: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: Zoxc on March 01, 2010, 05:28:55 PM

StarCraft II Launcher is a that let's you select a map, a modification and some player settings and it can then magically start the game with that map, modification and settings applied.

To play a map, simply download a map (it doesn't need any AI changes or stuff) from a site like http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/ (http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/). The Team StarCrack AI 6.1.1 is included in the package as an modification.

hey there. can you help me solve my problem?

ive got:
-set of 'clean' maps downloaded directly from http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/ (http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/)
-5.5 no chtn ai from http://darkblizz.org/Forum2/ai-scripts/starcrack-ai-official-thread/ (http://darkblizz.org/Forum2/../../ai-scripts/starcrack-ai-official-thread/)

what have ive done:
-moved the 'clean' maps to ...\SC2Launcher2.0\Maps\
-using http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html (http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html) ive extracted TriggerLibs into ...\SC2Launcher2.0\Mods\StarCrack AI 5.5 (no ai cheating)\

now the problem.
when i try to run some of not moded maps downloaded from nibbits i get this error:
(http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/3082/przechwytywanie2y.th.png) (http://img199.imageshack.us/i/przechwytywanie2y.png/)

tho when i am using any of modded ones such like those two: http://darkblizz.org/Forum2/ai-scripts/5-6-player-hacked-ai-maps/new/?topicseen#new (http://darkblizz.org/Forum2/../../ai-scripts/5-6-player-hacked-ai-maps/new/?topicseen#new) i can run them good without problems, game starts ai loads and your interface allows to manipulate number of AIs on map
(http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/5734/przechwytywanied.th.png) (http://img715.imageshack.us/i/przechwytywanied.png/)

summing up:
your loader seems to have problems loading/modding those maps with such errors:
(those are downloaded from nibbits maps with filenames changed from checksums to normal)

(2) Desert Oasis Novice.s2ma
(2) Desert Oasis.s2ma
(4) Shakuras Plateau Novice.s2ma
(4) Shakuras Plateau.s2ma
(http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/8355/desertoasisshakurasplat.th.png) (http://img535.imageshack.us/i/desertoasisshakurasplat.png/)

(2) Steppes of War Novice.s2ma

(http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6630/stepsofwarlosttemple.th.png) (http://img169.imageshack.us/i/stepsofwarlosttemple.png/)

hope this will help =)

EDIT:
also using http://www.dependencywalker.com/ (http://www.dependencywalker.com/) ive found this:

This has been my favourite so far.
However, i find it strange that this launcher was able to display map info long before other launchers got released with similar functions.
Also strange that this launcher is able to load AI onto maps that hadn't been "hacked". Others still require 33+ maps while this launcher manages everything with only 9.
Strangest of all is that no-one has commented on this fact.

No problems, only when i turned FPS counter on
the game got very choppy from the beginning.

The best launcher for me because you can load any map in spectate mode (fully with Computers) to check progress of AI scripts. :D
Nicely done!

so you guys do not have problems loading those maps? ???
Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: apriores on March 02, 2010, 08:02:42 PM
I'm using XP and don't have any problem. Try with compatibility mode for launcher if you have Vista/7 (Properties on file -> Compatibility tab -> check Run this program in compatibility mode for - Windows XP -> OK).

Another cool thing is that you can set Disabled for slots and you'll have how many Computers do you want on. Lovin' it!  :D

still not working =( same errors. maybe ill redownload those ones :> lol that would be uncool

-

well thats why i use this loader. no need to gather all map modifications. all ive got to have is few 'base' maps and mod them. hope there will be 3.0 with alot more features :P

EDIT:
nope redownloading maps did not helped.
i have problems with maps mentioned in my earlier post downloaded from:
http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/browse/?p=&sort=date&order=asc& (http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/browse/?p=&sort=date&order=asc&)
from those first on the list, added Feb 19, 2010 only

Sorry, I didn's read your post... you told about manipulating number of AI too :P
I have Windows 7 in dual boot and I tested first 2 maps from your link: (2) Blistering Sands Novice and (4) Shakuras Plateau (both Feb 19), I used StarCrack 5.5 with TriggerLibs extracted, I set only 2 Computers on Shakuras Plateau and is working. If you have 7 (not Vista), maby you'll need a fresh install...

ok thank you for fresh look at this :)
ive made a fresh install and it worked. i copied 5.5 ai from old copy and it stoped so the problem is somewhere in ai / ai extraction. ill redownload them and extract once more.

thank you ill edit my post

EDIT:
lies it is not working again, furthermore while starting the game it likes to shutdown with an error... ill reinstall sc][

Post by: apriores on March 02, 2010, 10:43:11 PM
A little surprise... I tried to make working watching your own replays and now I have the same Zerg.Galaxy error from XP.  :D

Edit: I think its about maps, like you said. Some maps are working and some not. I changed them with sYK0's, those with logging screen and after that I've got error.
Anyway, you can play any map if you'll set on No mod. You can manually apply StarCrack 5.5 in Game folder (StarCraft II Beta\Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod) and it will use it like default. The good thing is you can use all others launcher's settings. And an interesting thing is that with Enhanced AI (cheating) the launcher works even with login screen maps.  :-\

P.S.
It is about maps. I put them back and its working again with all AI scripts.

No, I think you can't load in Base.SC2Data format with this launcher, I tried and it'll not load it, only with TriggerLibs extracted from any Base.SC2Data with MPQ Editor: http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html (http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html)

Hey there, this is the first GUI based app for SC2 beta i have used so far and im just going to leave some feedback and some talk vs the other GUI apps out there.

Requests:

1.) In the Starcraft II - Beta Launcher they have this database map downloader and i must say it makes it easier to just download maps from a database that everyone uses rather then go look for the good version of the map you want, so maybe you can add this feature to this app?.

2.) Can you please add replys to this?.

3.) Can you please add a Update option so we dont have to manual update?.

Questions:

1.) In what language did you code this app?.

2.) Why is the FFA option disabled?

This vs other GUI apps:

1.) Why i choose this app vs the others is because its very straight forward and has a clean environment so please keep it that way and dont add a bunch of grapichs.

2.) It seems that the other coders are in a hurry to compete with each other on what app is the best lol, so this leads into many bugs/crashes and problems. So my adivse is, please take your time and fix any known bugs BEFORE releaseing.
Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: Zoxc on March 03, 2010, 03:37:52 PM
I have updated the launcher. This fixed the issue with adding too many files (MPQs have a fixed number of files they can hold and the limit was quite low on some maps).

Buzzard: I will not add any download option or replay option for the time being. The application is coded in Delphi (the source is included) and the FFA option is locked simply because I don't know how to setup teams.

Fixed in 2.0.2. It seems the map header is not fixed size after all.

Why does some maps have a loading screen and some not?.
You can get loading screens on all maps by extracting them to the StarCraft II directory. It seems like loading screens are somewhat bugged.

use..
Oh and I just thought of something, what if the same way they are creating 6 AI type maps they made a map with the number of Ai's corresponding to the number of Colors specifically for this Launcher so that you can be any color and just close the excess amount of Comp slots so it doesn't bug? like a 1v1 map with 8 AI slots

i check MapInfo and here is what i found:

i think that player info struct have 23 bytes at least as follows

[byte] - player number. 0x00 - neutral (observer), 0x01..0x0F - player
[byte] - controlled by. 0x00 - not controlled (disabled), 0x01 - player control, 0x02 - computer control, 0x03 - neutral
[byte] - unknown for me
[byte] - unknown for me
[byte] - unknown for me
[dword][4 bytes] - color. 0x00000001..0x0000000C colors as they are in war3, 0xFFFFFFFF - random color
[... bytes] - some kind of string or struct. unknown for me
[byte] - finishing zero for some kind of string or struct. must be 0x00
[8 bytes] - unknown for me
[dword][4 bytes] - i'm not really sure, but 0x00000000 gives random race, other values (cannot check all) give terran but only for computer cotrolled player
[byte] - finishing zero (for player struct?). must be 0x00.

mb that will be useful

update: before player structs here is DWORD value of players count.

You can put any files in the directories under Mods or you can place them in the Base directory (in which case it will be imported regardless of the map). The files are added to a copy of the map. The StarCraft II installation is not modified.

asdfghgghjdhg: Thanks. I guess you're gonna see at least a color selection soon :)

This works excellent. I didn't get any errors, to get it to work I simply:

Fresh install
Latest Patch (This could be the cause of the error, you have a patch rev selected in the advanced options that you don't actually have downloaded)
Extracted Launcher
Placed MapsPlay!

Yes, if we could have the option of choosing the maps folder, this would allow playing of replays.  You need the map in 00\11\ with 0011 at the front of each name, and launch them from that location with LazyLauncher, in order to be able to play the replay back.
If we can change the folder, that would be enough to make it work I think.

This is without a doubt the best launcher now.

Ability to choose race, random, color, amount of AI opponents, use any AI and use default and standard Blizzard maps.

The only thing missing is style, otherwise fantastic work!

EDIT: Dunno what the status is on replays but who wants to watch themselves play against a computer opponent anyway, lol

Sometimes you have a big FFA game and it's nice to be able to go back and see what was going on with the other players during your downtimes.  You'll be playing and suddenly see "GG" from one computer, so you know another one took it out.. you may want to watch it to see how it went down.

It's not a huge deal.. but it's also not a huge deal to implement. From my experience, as long as the map is in cache\00\11 and has 0011 at the front of the name, and you launch the map from that folder with LazyLaunch, you can then watch the replay.

It also makes more sense to launch them from there.  That is how the game works officially. Maps are stored in the cache folders, and loaded from there.

EDIT: As my own contribution, I have taken the time to put together the official 14 maps, updated as of 3/6/10, in their full, long filename format. I'll post again when it's uploaded.

The 14 official beta maps, updated as of 3-6-10, in their long filename format.  (the launcher recognizes them in this name format)

Understood, I just think its the least important thing right now, though if you're right and it doesn't take much to get right then maybe it should be corrected asap.

Thanks for the maps!

ok, I stand partially corrected by someone on IRC.

For replays to work, the only requirement is that the maps are stored somewhere in the cache directories, and launched FROM THERE by lazy launcher.

So you can have them anywhere in the cache\ subfolders you wish.  All that would be needed for this and usmc's launcher would be to allow you to select that as your map folder, rather than these defaults.  Then you could load the replays successfully.

No renaming required.

EDIT: I have tested this and I can confirm.  I put the official maps into the cache folders. I created a subfolder for them called "zz" to put it at the bottom.  Anything would have worked though.  Then I launched one of the maps, from there, via LazyLauncher v2.  It did the whole "victory" thing because it was an unmodified map. But I fooled about for a minute or two, then quit.  I then loaded the replay via lazy launcher and it did play successfully.  So simply having an ability to choose the source folder would give replay ability.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure now after all.  The way these work by modifying and resaving the map file would mean a different, new source file for the replay.  It would have to be saved in the cache folders, and launched from there, and left behind with a unique name I suspect.

Oh well, just trying to help.  I'll watch the progress...

As I said, maps need to be sourced in, and launched from the cache folders to play replays.

The problem is, these launchers take the map, and recompile it with the AI changes and AI players added in, and then saves it somewhere, and launches it from there with Lazy Launch.

If it creates that temporary map file in the cache folders, it would work for replays. However, you'd need to have unique filenames each time to avoid overwriting previous maps.  This would mean that you're cache folder would quickly start to swell with new maps, at 1-2mb a piece, with each game.  So I'm not sure if there is a practical solution.

Zoxc, the player type should have at least 4 types:
1.User
2.Computer
3.Spectator
4.Referee
not just only 3 types, you can modify the file "MapInfo" to let it work.

thx for your launcher!

Exactly. The idea is brilliant and I have already testet it, and it is simpler than you described. Whatever map loader is used just needs to make its own copy of the played map into some folder in the cache folder. Could be the download folder like I did with my example. If the maps then also have the AI in the maps (only the TriggerLibs part or they will become huuge), then you will have a map with roughly the same size as the original, only adding well, 315kb to the map. Which does add up.
The solution to different map names could be making a generic map name with codes like: ttzp for the races on the map. And I guess another line with some kind of code showing the player setup for the map. Like 1220 to show one human player, 2 AIs and one disabled slot. Ends up being tttt2222 added to a 4 terrans controlled by the AI. I have added AIv6 at the end of my maps to show they have the v6 AI. Could be SCAIv6 to short for Starcrack :) .
The player might then be able to read in the replay file, the name of the map it is meant to show, and have the launcher create this map if the original is in its map folder :)
I have given all this quite some thought, but here are probably simpler ways to do this. This is just the one I have come up with to work with launchers. My other method is... pre-modifying all the maps to these setups making map files in the cache being more than 100mb to begin with and giving a ton of map choices :(
Blizzard must have had a simpler solution. Maybe just a temporary mapinfo file somewhere based on the launcher when starting a game, and based on the replay when ending the game?
Oh, here is my test and some of my ramblings. Sorry about all the text there:

Beg to differ. How about adding some constructive feedback as to why you think it is "so fail" instead of being a douche?

As far as I can see, this launcher incorporates every feature every other launcher has and more. The only thing missing is picking teams, which isn't working properly in other launchers anyway.

This launcher has it all with a simple and sleek interface, no need to download "AI" maps, no need to download seperate AI.

The only improvement I can see would be to have everything built into a single .exe instead of having to extract directories and such.

Woah, it works without need of Lazy Launcher now? Bravo!

Frankly, I find this to be the best launcher of them all.  In my opinion.  Very well done.

Now if you can just incorporate the new player / team settings that seem to be working in that newest 0.3 launcher being talked about in other threads down there, this would be absolutely complete.  They have it working where you can team up with computers (although I'm more interesting in putting computers teamed AGAINST me 8) )

Oh, and the whole thing we talked about regarding replays. I have stared a thread in this subforum with details about the entire problem of making launchers create replayable maps, if you can look at it, and possibly try to incorporate any ideas.

But GREAT WORK, I love this launcher.  I took the time to put virtually every AI out there in existence into the thing.  Nearly 40 of them.

Nice launcher. I really like its mod selector and how it makes 3 simple folders. Seems other launchers have had success with using the Starcraft 2 default map folder:
"C:\Users\*username*\Documents\StarCraft II Beta\Maps" (In Windows 7 that is).
To store maps, and they just need to have the same maps in the cache folder and replays should work, as long as the mod being used is in the triggerlibs folder in Starcraft 2. Or in the replay launcher.
If you will be adding team functionality, then go for 0.41 of the starlauncher SC2 loader, because it got the AI to actually fight as teams and win the battle when destroying the opposing teams. The 0.3 one had team support but it was rather useless.

can you make it possible that we can watch replays after the game vs a comp? because atm there is a error message like "no map" or something like that. that would be great :-D

What I think should be done before replay functionality is of course Team functions so it's at the same progress as the other one, I don't want to give up on this launcher i love it ;(

I am hoping this launcher gets team support as well sooner or later. No rush, but when it does this will be my preferred launcher. Also this launcher seems to run better than the ones still experimenting a bit with team play, although I have not had any major problems on that part,

Please, don't give up and do all your best to implement teams. This launcher simply can't be replaced for me... Its construction is perfect, with its design, map preview, change map button where you can see thumbnails for all maps and the number of players supported, the last map remains opened, you always can have access to settings and Advanced button for all other options. It is perfect!... But Team is grayed... :(

P.S.
Actually, you put that setting there and you'll have to finish it.  :P

Hey the launcher isn't working for my computer.  When I load the launcher, I can't see player, colour, team, or race options (everything under Setup Players).  I can still choose a map but unable to do anything about the settings so I can start a game.  Do you know how to solve this?

Strange that this launcher started strong, with functions other launchers didn't get until much later... and yet it's one of the last launchers to not have or at least be experimenting with team play. That said, this is still my favorite launcher, as I have had nothing but problems with the other ones. (StarLauncher, for example, won't load the StarCrack 6.1.1 AI) Anyways, I'm really looking forward to team play, and maybe some online games in the future, if that's even possible with these cracks.

But is team play even that important? I hear that AI still send to units to your base even if they are on your team, so yeah, what's the point even.

are you planning to implement replay capability ?

Zoxc, i just played ur launcher using team matches....

1) ur teammate always sends their army in my baSE and just leaves it there

2) after u kill your enemies...you cant win unless ur team mate dies too?
Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: Bohrizan on March 19, 2010, 03:56:34 AM
Unfortunately, Justus is correct. I played a few games myself using various maps, and each game yielded the same results. My teammate would would build, upgrade, and expand as normal, but he would not attack the enemy's base and instead sent his troops to stand on top of my command center/nexus/hive. While attacking the enemy's base, I noticed that its teammate was doing the exact same thing. After defeating both of my opponents single handedly, I had to destroy my teammates base as well in order to achieve victory.

Another thing that I personally found rather annoying was that, when mousing over my teammate's buildings and units, instead of seeing the green crosshair I should see when hovering over or clicking my ally's buildings/units, it was red as if he were my enemy. Just a minor quirk, albeit it proved to be a nuisance when he first sent his troops in to lounge around inside my base, as I killed them all not realizing they were friendly.

I'm not 100% sure yet, but it looked like only one of the opposing computers was really doing anything, my computer ally didn't sent troops to my base when I was under attack.
Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: apriores on March 19, 2010, 08:11:31 PM
AI's team help not belongs to launcher's team support, but to AI's script, I suppose.
Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: Bohrizan on March 20, 2010, 12:56:09 AM
I can confirm it now. The AI does not support its teammates. When attacking one opponent's base, instead of sending its troops to help its ally, the opposing AI's teammate sent its troops to my ally's base to attack. (And sometimes it would just do nothing at all) Now, if it is using that as a strategy to hopefully draw myself or my ally's troops to my ally's base, it didn't work. I had to send my own troops to defend my ally's base, as my ally continued to attack. The same thing goes for myself and my own ally. When my base is under attack, he does either nothing, or launches an attack on one of the opponent's bases.

A couple of times my troops were battling with both opponent's troops in the middle of the map, and my ally ran his own troops around the fight and just attacked one of the bases.

I tested this two times each on 3 different maps: Lost Temple, Kulas Ravine, and Shakura's Plateau.

This is currently the launcher I have been using and it's really great. It's very simple and lightweight. If only the replays generated after each game using this launcher are made so that it can be viewable then that would really be fantastic!

Post by: iLLu on April 04, 2010, 10:10:18 AM
The launcher's fantastic, but the Starcrack 7.0 cheats! I watched a replay back and it gets 10 free minerals every second.

You can beat it if you turtle up for a while, but it kind of sucks because I was hoping to practice cheese/rushes or some timed pushes. Pretty hard when the AI is sitting on thousands of minerals though.

Hello everyone, i don't totally understand how this launcher works.
First of all, this launcher comes with StarCrack AI in it, the mpq seems to be unpacked (this is necessary?).. my question is... the launcher in some way tells SC2 to use that AI?
What if i overwrite the files on the original Starcraft2 folder (as StarCrack readme says..)?
I'm trying to understand which files/folders has the priority since i'm also trying to change some units settings (like the construction time), but it seems that the launcher (or SC2?) is using the files that are in the original folder/Versions/LatestVersion (in this case 14803)... so only if i modify that mpqs i can see my change in game.
Or i can also paste some pieces of AbilData.xml in the Base.Sc2Data in LibertyMulti but then something weird happens (i tried to modify marine construction time, in game it goes ok but it creates 2 marines instead of one O.o).

in game it goes ok but it creates 2 marines instead of one O.o).

This usually happens when you play on an AI map. Play on the original maps. The AI maps import races into the map, then the launcher does the same thing, making everything 2x.
Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: Smjert on April 12, 2010, 08:19:08 AM
With the original map pack which mpq it uses?
Because this is the main confusion... why the launcher has place for mpq mods?
Which mpqs you can modify? what is the priority? (i suppose that the launcher mpqs has the higher priority so every settings in the org installation folder are "overwrited").
And last but not least, why now it uses the settings i modified in Versions/Base14803 (that is a patch file... i thought that it was only used to modify the current mpq in the installation folder)?

PS: and if i mod a org mpq, how about the patching? it overwrites the changes so i have to put them again?

PS2: I solved my problems, i created a new Base folder (naming it Base0) in Versions folder, copied the files from the latest version and modified the patch file so now i have my marine construction time at 20 and no double marine problem ;).

Hi Zoxc. I have one more little wish, if it can be easily done and you have time. I think if you'll run a map directly from Cache, you can then watch the replay without map error. Can you please make map folder browseable or, at least, a path line in .ini file where we can edit it with a specific one?
Thanks in advance.

Title: Re: StarCraft II Launcher
Post by: apriores on April 21, 2010, 06:20:02 AM
With LazzyLaunch, you just need to have AI installed on SC2 directory and then launch the map directly from Cache directory (any subfolder) and replays are working well. I think, if you're launching the map from Cache with your launcher set on No Mode (in case you're using the AI directly installed) is the same thing or, if you're launching the game with specific AI and then just copying the TriggerLibs&GameData in SC2 root folder (to give the replay the same AI), should working too without desynchronization. Though, I may miss something.
ET2010's launcher, is copying the map in Cache\Download and then is launching it from there  - the same principle. But I'm using your launcher. Its my first love :P and with Doix speed plugin is even more unique now. Watching replays is a less use for me, but I had some matches when I wished to review them.

.. yeah zoxc can you edit your launcher for patch 9? it still works for patch 8 but if you open it using patch 9 a pop up window opens and it says

NativeAPI

03880000 - Access violation at address 007AA63F in module NativeAPI.dll read of address 03527000

then another pop up comes out

Timer Natives

System Error. Code 87.
The parameter is incorrect.

then the game loads but you and your ai enemy will not respawn. plz update this launcher. its the best i use and it doesnt even need installation or anything >.<

edit: ow and if anyone who made the file Battle.net.gfx used to open the homepage is reading this plz update the file, it doesnt work anymore

This errors are from NativAPI and Team plugins. You need to disable both. About AIs, it's not launcher's fault. They're not working anymore neither with directly install. In patch 9 we're stuck at the moment with default Blizz AI...

wow youre right!! disabling the 2 plug ins will remove the error message. then the problem is about reconfiguring the ai scripts and the plug ins.. wah i cant wait playing patch 9!! i played a while ago with people and sometimes the ai are stronger than players!! ahaha and you dont really experience lag on ai.

It works with patch 9 if you disable the Teams and NativeAPI plugins and turn on Free For All. However it will likely fail to parse the melee maps from patch 9 or maps created with the editor. It will likely take a little while until I can properly implement teams. You can probably expect better support for Blizzard's AI too.

On my machine it is still not working - it can get into the game but no unit is displayed or controllable.  I tried what you said - disable the plugins and turn no Free For All but no luck.  What specific map did you use to test it?  I was using the official Lost Temple.  Thanks a lot.

If you want to play current AIs, you must use previous version of game. Just set the launcher to play on build 14803 till will be out some new compatible AIs or, if you want to try patch 9, play it with No mod (Blizzard's default AI).

Edit:
You can play one of the newest maps: Incineration Zone, but you need to launching it with build 15097 (patch 9). The other maps are not working.

wah... and i thought the launcher was updated...  :-[ are you by some chance using post patch 11 version of the game and is trying to play against 2 or more opponents and using green tea 0.4, starcrack 7.0, and other pre patch 11 ai??

you need to turn off the plug ins. on the launcher click Advanced and then select both of the plug ins and click Disable. then click Free For All. and update your ai. starcrack doesnt work for this launcher. try green tea, its very challenging.

at least for me that works for patch 16. not a troll here, there is patch 16 but not stated in the patch notes cause its a minor bug fix. thats what i know of that error.

This launcher was stopped from development log time ago. Try this launcher:

It should work with released version, like title says. I didn't try it because I have retail now, but in Phase 2 it was the only available launcher.
